Hello

We are a family of five who have set out to complete a circumnavigation of the earth over the next two years.
Our family consists of dad, Martin, aged 40, mother, Farrah, aged 39 and our 3 children; Anton at 18, Elliott at 15 and Victor at 12 years old.

We are an overall regular family living in Denmark with office jobs, mortgage and everyday life. We are new to sailing and cruising. This is our adventure to get a little more fun out of life.

Life should be an adventure.

Martin

Martin is the skipper of the boat. He has studied computer science at the University of Copenhagen and worked as an IT consultant at a small company in Roskilde.
Our journey of circumnavigation of the world in a sailboat is a childhooddream of Martin originated in his aunt and her husbands bying of an old boat and preparing it for sailing around the world. If they ever went, we are not aware, but they did pass on their dream to Martin.

Farrah

I myself am originally from Pakistan, and moved to Denmark as an 8-year-old with my family. I have a degree in geography from the University of Copenhagen, and have worked in the City of Copenhagen with roads, traffic and digital maps (GIS).
I’m probably the least adventurous in our family, but I’m really looking forward to being with my kids and husband for a full two years without having to get up early and go our separate ways.

Anton

Anton has just become a student from Rysensteens gymnasium on the physics and math line this summer, 2022, and have agreed to sail with us at least for a year. Anton is a pretty good piano player. He has attended some lessons for a short period of time some years ago, but is largely self-taught. Unfortunately he is not able to have a piano on the boat, instead we have persuaded him to take his guitar with him. There will be plenty of time to practice during our journey. In addition, Anton has also gone to martial arts for many years in his spare time in primary school.

Elliott

Elliott has just finished the 8th grade and will be homeschooled for the 9th grade on the boat. Maybe we need to take a trip home to Denmark in the spring of 2023 for Elliott to take his Final exams with his classmates.
Elliott likes to explore new oppurtunities, and has had a lot of spare time activites througout the years, e.g scouting, handball, badminton, swimming, choir, visual arts and piano. Recently he has developed an interest in reading and attended a course at the author workshop in Copenhagen, which has encouraged even more writing. At home, Elliott has also shown his talent for drawing and painting with highly accurate reproductions of images on canvas.

Victor

Victor has just finished 5th grade. He will now be homeschooled on the boat for 2 years in 6th and 7th grade. Victor is quite firm with computers; both games and also a bit of python, which he is learning from his elder brother, Anton.
Victor loves to do practical tasks on the boat, as long as they are not boring. Tasks like fixing the steering wheel and testing the engine are welcome, but chores like doing the dishes not so much.

Why

We are an overall regular family living in Denmark with office jobs, mortgage and mostly everyday life. Some would say boring. Not the typical adventurous kind of family.

When the corona hit Denmark in 2020, all normal and well-known everyday life was turned upside down. Suddenly everything could happen.
It made us consider and evaluate our life and the time we have left before our children grow up and begin their own lives. Our eldest son Anton, then 16 now 18 was just about to be an adult and we felt we didn’t spent enough time with our kids. The everyday life was too much time consuming. We felt life was passing by too quickly and our kids were grown up too soon.

Martin realised he wanted to get more out of life and fulfill his childhood dream of sailing around the world. That would give us all time together without offices and schools and a common goal by sailing together as a team.

How

We started planning the journey for around two years ago. None of us had ever sailed before, so first things first. We had to learn how to sail.

October 2021 in our autumn leave, we booked a sailing course in Mallorca for 8 days practical and theoretical on a Beneteau 45.
A week later all except Victor took the exam and recieved our certificate of proficiency in yachting issued by the danish maritime authority. So now we are all set and ready to sail.

This summer so far we have sold our apartment in Central Copenhagen and got most of our stuff stored in a stable out in the rural Denmark. With some of our stuff sent on a pallet to our newly acquired boat in Cartagena, we are now starting out our new lives on a boat and getting the boat ready for the journey.
